Supporting Local Sports Clubs
Originally formed to assist the borough council in promoting & supporting local sports players and clubs, the sport council’s purpose has evolved to focus on:
- Providing a forum for local sports clubs to network, share ideas & resolve issues
- Supporting local sports clubs by acting as a coordinated voice representing the needs of local sports clubs at borough council level
- Lobbying for upgrade & expansion to sports infrastructure to properly meet the sport & fitness needs of a growing local population
Promoting sports & Healthy Living
The benefits of sport and an active lifestyle are well known, but it can be difficult to make the first step. The district sports council promotes sport & healthy living through a number of key activities:
- Supporting the maintenance of the Reigate & Banstead directory of local sports clubs
- Recognising & encouraging local sports players, volunteers & clubs through the annual Sports Awards
- Assisting with the organisation & promotion of the annual Fun Run and Sports Day attended by a wide range of sports clubs to give local residents the chance to find out about & try different sports
